I landed in Pittsburgh last night and had enough time to enjoy a great breakfast / brunch spot downtown.
Last night, I looked up good breakfast restaurants on Foursquare (usually my main source for recommendations), Google, and Yelp. I came across Bluebird Kitchen, read the reviews, and decided it would be my first breakfast spot in Pittsburgh. I woke up this morning just in time to walk over and order breakfast!
The restaurant is more of a grab-and-go kind of cafe. It’s very open and has seating lining the walls and the window. Perfect for enjoying a quick bite, pastry, or coffee.
I looked over the menu and decided on the Frittata without really looking at the ingredients. My server reassured me I would enjoy it. I also ordered an iced coffee, my weakness.
The frittata came out in a rolled up package. I took it and my iced coffee across the street to my hotel room to enjoy.
So, I will be honest. I was quite confused that my frittata was rolled up. But I unwrapped it and realized it was a sandwich…and I LOVE a good breakfast sandwich.
So if I had read the ingredients I would of seen that it was clearly a sandwich but I was so pleasantly surprised. The frittata on a chibatta sandwich was exactly what I wanted. It was delicious! And unlike some breakfast sandwiches, it was easy to eat…the chibatta was nice and fluffy but not at all soggy. The frittata itself had a perfect amount of the goat cheese, potatoes, sausage with tomato and lettuce lining the chibatta. And the iced coffee tasted like it was freshly brewed.
I definitely recommend Bluebird Kitchen for great breakfast / brunch bites. The staff was very welcoming. The pastries looked delicious. The coffee was freshly brewed. And it’s in a nice location downtown.
