A few months ago, I crashed my friends brunch date. Well it wasn’t actually a date but I invited myself…thankfully, they said they were fine with me joining. We were supposed to meet at another brunch spot but my uber actually dropped me off at the wrong corner and before getting upset, I was drawn into Woodland. The DJ was playing some jams…I peeped my head inside to look at the menu and check out the vibes. I texted my friends, who were late, asking if they wanted to try Woodland instead of our original restaurant. They were down to switch it up. (As you can see, I hijacked their brunch plans completely).

In true Brunch fashion, we started out with a round of bottomless mimosas. The three of us ordered Fried Chicken & Waffles and two orders of Fried Chicken & Red Velvet Chicken.

The Fried Chicken & Red Velvet Waffles came with chipotle maple syrup. I evenly poured it over my delicious, colorful dish.

Now let me tell you, I’ve had / love / adore Red Velvet Pancakes and Chicken (which you can see is beautifully showcased on my Social Media profile pictures)…but this exceeded expectations. The waffles were fluffy and sweet but the syrup and the chicken added the savory.

I often struggle when ordering brunch…Do I want sweet? Do I want savory? This dish achieved both tastes well.

Be sure to try Woodland for their weekend brunch. You’ll be drawn in by the DJ and you’ll stay because of the ambiance and the service.
